*Call To Worship, The Rev. Dr. Jon Burnham
Pastor: What does the Lord require of you?
People: To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
Pastor: Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
People: First we take the plank from our own eye.
Pastor: With the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
People: We are blessed to bless; we receive to give.
Opening Prayer
*Hymn 67 My Song Forever Shall Record
1 My song forever shall record
the tender mercies of the Lord;
your faithful love will I proclaim,
and every age shall know your name.
2 I sing of mercies that endure,
forever firm, forever sure,
a strong support that never dies,
established changeless in the skies.
3 Almighty God, your lofty throne
has justice for its cornerstone,
and shining bright before your face
are truth and love and boundless grace.
4 With blessing is the nation crowned
whose people know the joyful sound;
they in the light, O Lord, shall live,
the light your face and favor give.
Prayer of Confession, Leonie Tchoconte, Liturgist
God of mercy and justice, we confess we have been harsh judges and poor forgivers. We have noticed every speck while ignoring our planks. We have demanded justice for others while pleading mercy for ourselves. Forgive our hypocrisy, our broken relationships, our failure to walk humbly. Teach us to steward relationships with the same grace You show us. Amen. (Silent Confession).
Assurance of Pardon
*Glory Be to the Father, Hymn 581

The Word
Prayer for Illumination
First Scripture Reading, Micah 6:6-8
“With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”
He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
Anthem
Sermon Scripture, Matthew 7:1-5
“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? Or how can you say to your neighbor, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while the log is in your own eye?
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye.”
The Word of the Lord for us today.
Thanks be to God.

Heart of Mercy: Stewarding Our Relationships

*Hymn 468 In My Life
1 In my life, Lord,
be glorified; be glorified.
In my life, Lord,
be glorified today.
2 In our song, Lord,
be glorified; be glorified.
In our song, Lord,
be glorified today.
3 In your church, Lord,
be glorified; be glorified.
In your church, Lord,
be glorified today.
4 In your world, Lord,
be glorified; be glorified.
In your world, Lord,
be glorified today.
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Prayers of the People
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Healing Service
Invitation to Healing and Anointing
During this time in worship, our elders and pastor will offer the laying on of hands and anointing with oil. This ancient practice of the church, rooted in James 5, reminds us to pray for one another so that we may be healed.
All are invited to come forward for prayer, whether for yourself or for someone you love, and whether the need is physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, or otherwise. The Holy Spirit is the true healer, and we come in faith, opening our hearts to God’s mercy.
Sometimes healing comes in this life, and sometimes in the life to come, but always through the presence of Christ, who makes us whole.
Come as you feel led, trusting the love of God that holds you now and forever.
