A Letter from Pastor Jon

Dear friends,

Thank you to Rev. Linda Herron for preaching so faithfully in my absence this past Sunday, opening "The Mind of Christ in a Roman Cell" from Philippians. Linda has walked with this congregation a long time, and it showed.

I am back from Madison, Mississippi, where our family gathered to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. Ninety years is a long road, and it was a gift to sit in the pew of the church that raised her and give thanks alongside her.

This Sunday we continue Letters from Prison with "Secrets of Joy," from Habakkuk 3:17-19 and Philippians 4:4-13. Paul writes from that same cell that he has learned to be content in any circumstance. That is not resignation. It is something closer to defiance, the stubborn insistence that joy does not depend on our surroundings.

We will also hold a Healing Service during worship this Sunday. After the sermon, you are invited to come forward for anointing with oil and prayer, for whatever needs healing in your life: body, heart, relationship, or finances. Come with whatever you are carrying.

Peace,
Pastor Jon

This Sunday, August 30
