...meeting human needs.
St. John's Presbyterian Church has a tremendous interest in helping our neighbors in Houston as well as those across the globe. Our giving spirit shows in the many programs where our members give of their money and time.
Here in Houston, St. John's is a large supporter of Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM), a food bank located in the South West part of town. Just down the street from there are the Anchor Houses, furnished apartments specifically for families of patients receiving long-term care in the medical center. On the ship channel, the Seaman's Center is supported by our local Presbytery, and by St. John's volunteers who bring simple, but very appreciated gifts such as magazines and Christmas boxes for seamen who are away from home for months at a time.
Our Sr. High youth have a tradition of traveling outside Houston in the Summer to help build or repair houses for people that cannot afford or are unable to do the work themselves. This year, the mission team is traveling to Mexico to build a concrete block house for one such family. Our congregation also supports various Presbyterian efforts abroad such as disaster assistance, hunger relief, medical attention and education.
We believe that Christ gave us very specific instructions to love our neighbor as He loves us. That's why you'll find giving is a way of life at St. John's.
...glorifying God by making disciples and meeting human needs.
